Only John Reid Until Penn State Football

29 days remaining, in 4 weeks you’ll have those day-before jitters

Oh boy, we are getting close now. Practices are starting, and we’ve broken into the 20s on the Days Until countdown, which means we’ll be featuring cornerback John Reid for the second straight year.

The highly touted recruit was too good to keep of the field last year, as the true freshman played in all 13 games for the Nittany Lions in the 2015-16 campaign. He finished second on the team in passes defended (7), and tied for first on the team in interceptions (2). One of those came against Indiana, and the other came against Rutgers and was accompanied by a 44 yard return (you can watch this replay below). For his performance during his freshman year, he was named to ESPN’s B1G All-Freshman team along with teammates Troy Reeder and Saquon Barkley.

Reid is expected to start next to junior Grant Haley this year, and despite losing Trevor Williams to graduation, PSU’s starting cornerback duo should be a strength for the defense this year. In addition to his talent and athleticism, Reid has been praised for his leadership ability on and off the field. With so many key departures at other positions, he could be an important piece in keeping the defense running smooth and in-tune.
