If you’re still missing the 2016 college football season, or in mourning over the losses of your favorite Pennsylvania NFL teams, take solace. We’ve got you covered with links on Penn Staters in the Superbowl and NFL, recruiting news and more.
Penn Staters in the NFL
Read more about former Penn State lacrosse player Chris Hogan, the only Penn Stater appearing in this year’s Superbowl, and how he went from LAX to the NFL. Check out some highlights from his Penn State lacrosse days.
Everyone’s favorite Penn State mathematician, offensive lineman and Renaissance man, John Urschel, was recently featured on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. What’s Urschel been up to? Oh, just playing for the Baltimore Ravens and, at the same time, getting his PhD at MIT in the science of advanced applied mathematics.
If you plan on watching this weekend’s Pro Bowl, look for Penn State football alumni Cameron Wake and Sean Lee, who were named to this year’s team.
Prepping for the 2017 Season
Coach James Franklin is using the Rose Bowl loss as motivation for his team for 2017 – and to entice prospects on the recruiting trail.
Recruiting and National Signing Day
On the recruiting front, Coach James Franklin says he’s feeling pretty great so far, even with the recent decommit of four star linebacker Dylan Rivers.
Penn State has the 15th best recruiting class in the nation, and third best in the Big 10 with 18 recruits in the 2017 class, and four who have already enrolled. Check out this short roundup of Penn State’s 2017 recruiting class, by position, of those recruits who have already committed. Also be sure to visit Black Shoe Diaries for recruiting news.
Several visits are planned for this weekend, including a visit from four star linebacker recruit Ellis Brooks from Richmond, Virginia and a 2018 prospect from Virginia, five star running back Ricky Slade, the top all purpose back per 247 Sports.
Penn State has set up a special signing day site that will go live on Wednesday, February 1 at GoPSUsports.com/signingday. There you’ll be able to get up to the minute updates, player bios, and see live webstreams and press conferences. (Just duck into a conference room at work on Wednesday; we won’t tell anyone.)
Mo Money, Mo Money
Conveniently, February 1 is also the due date for any season ticketholders to renew their Penn State football tickets. If you go into shock after seeing the total, just tell yourself that your renewal means Penn State can pay BSD Offensive MVP Coach Joe Moorhead more money.
Staff retention is important, especially when three Michigan football assistants are making a million bucks a year. That’s pretty high pay for a team that hasn’t won the Big 10 Championship in 13 years.
