Yes, it was a tough loss on Monday afternoon against the Trojans of Southern California. But that shouldn’t take away from the greatness of the 2017 edition of the Rose Bowl for the Penn State family. There’s still plenty of reading left to do, so what are you waiting for?
Jason Kirk from the Mothership confirms that this game was everything that makes the Rose Bowl great. Just in case you missed some of the action for any reason, the Mothership has you covered with the Rose Bowl’s 10 most bonkers moments, some of which are hard to believe even the second, third, fourth and fifth times you watch them.
Gabriel Baumgartner from Sports Illustrated calls the Rose Bowl “epic” and “one for the ages,” which is absolutely true. Everyone seems to have agreed, as television ratings for the “The Grandaddy of Them All” were up 20% over previous iterations, and streaming (the way I watched the game all the way from Canada) passed 1 million unique viewers. Impressive!
Those impressions go a long way, apparently. Eric Matuszewski of Forbes wonders whether we saw a preview of the 2017-18 National Championship Game. Meanwhile, ESPN’s Ted Miller decided to re-rank the New Year’s Six teams post-bowls, and USC and Penn State coming in at 3 and 4, respectively. Michigan is 9th, which probably has Jim Harbaugh apoplectic.
Local outlets had news too! Philly.com’s Erin McCarthy talks about Saquon Barkley’s performance to remember. Mike Poorman from StateCollege.com wonders if, much like Garrett Sickels, we’ve seen the last of Chris Godwin in a Penn State uniform after Monday’s incredible performance. YourErie.com’s Jaclyn Seymour captured Penn State fan reactions post-game. And John McGonigal of the Centre Daily Times covers Trace McSorley’s tough post-game discussion.
