Penn State football moves up to #10 in this week’s college football playoff rankings after 35 unanswered points against Rutgers. The Lions were ranked fourteenth last week after falling for the second straight week, then to Michigan State.

The number one (Georgia) and number three (Notre Dame) teams lost, which left room for others to move up. Wisconsin was one of the beneficiaries of this, and is now closer to the playoffs as the only Big Ten team that controls its own destiny, coming in as the first team out at #5. For the Big Ten, Ohio State is next at #9, back in the top ten after demolishing Michigan State, which fell to #17.

Northwestern, which entered the rankings for the first time last week, is still in the rankings at #23, and Michigan also rejoins the rankings, at #24.

Something else surprising? Clemson’s at #2, over undefeated (& now-#3) Miami, who demolished Notre Dame last week.
