Fifth-year senior Matt Erlichman is the hockey team’s third-string goaltender. As a walk-on, and former club team player, he’s had an incredible journey to make the Nittany Lions Division I team. A few weeks ago in Pittsburgh, he finally played during a game, as Guy Gadowsky was able to put him in net for the final minutes with a 5-2 lead. Despite his in-game role for the team, Erlichman or “Licksy”, contributes a lot in the locker room and in training. He’s become a team favorite, and Gadowsky speaks very favorably of him for his work ethic and personality. The Daily Collegian has an excellent story about Erlichman’s career at Penn State.
Parker Cothren, Jason Cabinda, Grant Haley, and DaeSean Hamilton have accepted invitations to play in the East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, FL on January 20th. The game will air on the NFL Network.
Tommy Stevens has developed into a versatile offensive weapon that few could have predicted when he first came to Penn State. The York Daily Record traces his progress from raw recruit to a player that James Franklin can’t keep off the field.
"When I first met him [Tommy], he was about a buck-seventy, had this long blonde hair ... I was looking at him and thought, 'We gave this kid a scholarship?'" - Mike Gesicki
Washington safety Ezekiel Turner spoke to local media after practice on Monday, answering questions about Penn State. More specifically, he was asked about facing Mike Gesicki and Saquon Barkley, to which he responded, “I think we’ll be ready.”
As we approach the Fiesta Bowl, the debate over whether or not Barkley should play is still playing out among media and fans. Donnie Collins of the York Dispatch is a strong proponent of Barkley sitting out, but it’s clear from the coaches that this remains Saquon’s decision.
