Committany Nation: Penn State’s 2018 Class Continues Hot Streak

The Nittany Lions will look to stay hot on the recruiting trail as they host four-star WR Daniel George.

Penn State Lands Tarburton

If you haven’t seen already, the Nittany Lions picked up No. 11 last night as PA defensive end Nick Tarburton committed to Penn State. Going forward, Tarburton should offer the Nittany Lions some versatility. He plays middle linebacker now, but at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds, he’ll almost assuredly grow into a defensive end in the next couple years. And similar to someone like Ryan Buchholz or Damion Barber, he could be a player that’s kicked inside to play defensive tackle. Quite a bit of versatile upside with Tarburton.

North Carolina Linebacker Picks Up Offer

Being that Tarburton is doubtful to stick at linebacker, the Nittany Lions’ search for a third backer continues as they offer North Carolina’s Dax Hollifield.

Hollifield has picked up offers from Alabama, Florida State, Notre Dame, and Penn State in the last two days, so it’s safe to say he’s had a nice week. He’s definitely a kid to keep an eye on, maybe as a potential visitor for the Blue-White game.

Fields and Luketa Rise in 247 Rankings

Penn State’s No. 1 ranked class was well represented in 247’s updated rankings. Justin Fields and Jesse Luketa were the most notable risers in the class, with Fields moving up 64 spots to No. 36 overall, while Luketa went from being an 88-ranked three-star to a 92-ranked four-star and the No. 123 player overall.

Five other Penn State commits landed in 247’s rankings: Micah Parsons (No. 6), Zack Kuntz (No. 34), Ricky Slade (No. 63), Pat Freiermuth (No. 71), and Justin Shorter (No. 154).

Top Maryland Wideout Set to Visit

Penn State already has one of the very best wide receivers in Justin Shorter committed, but it’ll look to add at least one more. Being at the very top of that list is Daniel George, who will be making the trek to Happy Valley this weekend.

George checks a lot of the boxes as a wide receiver. Terrific athlete, displaying a 4.00 shuttle time and a 35.9-inch vertical. Good size at 6-foot-2, to go along with long arms. And his junior film matches his athleticism and measureables. He should see his offer list grow in the coming months, but the Nittany Lions probably have the early lead here. If Josh Gattis could reel in George and Shorter in 2018, he’d be one happy position coach.

Penn State Makes the Cut for Multiple Prospects

Here are some prospects that have Penn State in their top group of schools.

Four-star Virginia OT Nana Asiedu

Four-star Texas CB Verone McKinley III

Four-star Virginia LB Teradja Mitchell

Apparently, Mitchell also has noticed Penn State’s hot start in 2018...
