The long-standing Penn State tradition of success in athletics combined with success in the classroom continues. Earlier today, the NCAA honored the wrestling, women’s tennis, and women’s volleyball teams for earning high scores in the Academic Progress Rate (APR). These three teams in particular were singled out for having APR scores amongst the Top 10 percent nationally over the last three academic years (2013-14 through 2015-16).
For the wrestling team especially, the recognition for their high APR gave them the distinction of being one of only a handful of collegiate athletic teams around the country who have won a national title and been recognized by the NCAA for their academic achievement. This puts the PSU wrestlers in the same boat with Columbia men's and women's fencing, Villanova men's basketball, Oklahoma women's gymnastics, Stanford women's tennis and Washington women's golf.
As always, we here at BSD congratulate all the athletes, coaches, and support staff for all of their hard work on and off the mat/court.
