Highlights
The Tale
After Chris Bleich’s departure from the 2018 class, Penn State has wasted no time in finding his replacements. Nana Asiedu and Antwan Reed committed during Blue-White weekend, and now the Nittany Lions picked up Illinois offensive tackle Bryce Effner. The Illinois product has flown under the radar a bit, but he caught Penn State’s eye during the spring evaluation period, as Matt Limegrover and company offered Effner in late March.
Outlook
When Penn State landed Asiedu and Reed, many believed that Effner might have lost his spot in the class, but that obviously wasn’t the case. Despite being a lower-rated prospect, there’s quite a bit to like about Effner. He has great size at 6-foot-5, 275 pounds, displays the athleticism to play either tackle positions, and could even be a guy that’s kicked inside to play guard.
Moving forward on the offensive line, there’s still a lot of moving pieces. Penn State remains in the thick of things for OT Rasheem Walker, OG Juice Scruggs, OG Matt Jones, OT Christian Armstrong, OT/OG Blake Zubovic, and JUCO OT TJ Bradley, so in this blogger’s humble opinion, it’s looking likely that the Nittany Lions will be taking five offensive lineman in the class.
Welcome to Penn State, Bryce!
