Back in 2013, when the Penn State football program was still in the process of the steadying the ship after the NCAA sanctions storm nearly sank it during the prior year, an athletic four-star tight end out of New Jersey had whittled his decision down to two schools: Penn State and Ohio State. The Buckeyes appeared to be the heavy favorite for Mike Gesicki’s services, given that the majority of Crystal Ball predictions on 247 Sports had OSU as Gesicki’s choice.
As we all know by now, that (thankfully) did not turn out to be the case. After struggling with pass catching during his first season as a starter in 2015, Gesicki showed last season why he was such a highly-rated recruit in the first place, garnering 48 catches for 679 yards and five touchdowns (many of them of the athletic variety that left the crowd pleasantly speechless).
Despite the allure of the NFL, Mike opted to stay put for his senior season and further increase his draft stock with another potentially stellar performance this coming Fall, as well as earn his degree. For that, we could not be more grateful.
And of course, no blog post about Mike Gesicki is complete these days without an obligatory YouTube highlight reel:
