As we inch closer to that fateful day, we look back at the career of one of Penn State’s great defensive players in the Big Ten era, Courtney Brown.
Brown played alongside LaVar Arrington and Brandon Short while in blue and white, racking up the accolades as he went along. He twice earned First Team All-Big Ten selections (1998 and 1999), Big Ten Lineman of the year (1999), Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year (1999), and Outback Bowl MVP (1999).
Brown went on to become the number one overall pick in the 2000 NFL draft, selected by the Cleveland Browns. He played five seasons with the Browns, but missed the field frequently after his rookie season due to injury. He finished out his career with the Denver Broncos in 2005.
While his NFL career didn’t pan out the way he may have wanted, Courney Brown is still one of the best defenders at Penn State in the Big Ten era.
