The awards watch lists have been trickling out during the past two weeks, and Penn State has been well-represented. But of all the awards to be announced following the regular season in December, which one is most likely to go home with a member of the Nittany Lions? Let’s take a look at the candidates:
(RB) Saquon Barkley- Heisman, Maxwell (National Player of the Year), Doak Walker (top running back), Walter Camp (on and off the field success)
(QB) Trace McSorley- Heisman, Maxwell (National Player of the Year), Wuerffel (college football’s premier award for community service), Johnny Unitas Golden Arm, Davey O’Brien (nation’s top quarterback), Walter Camp (on and off the field success)
(LB) Jason Cabinda- Butkus Award (top linebacker), Lott IMPACT Trophy (National Defensive of the Year on and off the field), Bednarik Award (National Defensive of the Year), Nagurski Trophy (National Defensive of the Year)
(S) Marcus Allen- Lott IMPACT Trophy (National Defensive of the Year on and off the field), Bednarik Award (National Defensive of the Year), Nagurski Trophy (National Defensive of the Year), Thorpe Award (top defensive back)
(TE) Mike Gesicki –Mackey Award (top tight end)
(K) Tyler Davis – Lou Groza Award (top kicker)
(P) Blake Gillikin – Ray Guy Award (top punter)
(Head Coach) James Franklin- Dodd Trophy (top head coach)
(Offensive Coordinator) Joe Moorhead- Broyles Award (top assistant coach)
