Jon Rothstein reported via Fanrag Sports Network that Penn State will hire Jim Ferry, former Duquesne and LIU-Brooklyn head coach, to its open assistant position.
The position has been officially open for about a month, and when it was originally made public, one of the criteria Pat Chambers wanted in a potential hire was previous head coaching experience. Ferry fits the bill on that front. The hiring will also bring a breath of fresh air to the Nittany Lions, bringing a set experience that stems from a different tree than the current Villanova-heavy staff.
Ferry spent the 10 seasons at LIU-Brooklyn, culminating his tenure with back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances with Blackbirds. Things did not go as well with Duquesne, where he went 60-97.
Ferry will be “reunited” with one of his former recruits in Jamari Wheeler, whom as we can recall was committed to the Dukes before the program fired Ferry.
Penn State's Pat Chambers will hire former Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry as an assistant, per a source.
