Oh, Hello: Four-Star DT Aeneas Hawkins Commits to Penn State

Penn State adds its third defensive tackle to its 2018 class

Laides and gentlemen, Aeneas Hawkins!

The Skinny

Hometown/High School: Cincinnati, OH (Archbishop Moeller)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-3, 265 pounds

Rankings: 4-star on Rivals, ESPN and Scout. 3-star on 247Sports

Notable Offers: Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Miami, Michigan State, Louisville

Highlights

The Tale

Offer sheets can, at times, be a bit misleading. Such is the case with Hawkins as he may not have had committable offers from some of the larger schools on his list at this time. That being said, Hawkins is a big time prospect and an impressive athlete for his size. Penn State initially offered in July of 2016 and immediately became a contender in his recruitment. After a brief time where it seemed Hawkins would follow in his father’s footsteps and play for Cincinnati, the Lasch Bash seems to have sealed the deal and brought the big man back to PSU.

The Outlook

In Hawkins, 3-star defensive tackle Judge Culpepper, and recently-added 4-star DT PJ Mustipher, the Nittany Lions have now landed two big men who are remarkably quick for their size. Both Culpepper and Hawkins project to play the 3-technique, but Hawkins appears to have a frame that can carry upwards of 300 pounds comfortably, making him a potential 1-tech candidate along with Mustipher.

The Archbishop Moeller prospect also gets Penn State into a school that typically produces at least one 4-star prospect a cycle. Doing so could prove fruitful for James Franklin and company down the line.
