When Allen Robinson departed for the NFL, many of us wondered what would happen to the Nittany Lion passing attack. Chris Godwin* was the answer to our inquiries.
Like Robinson, Godwin had a decent freshman season, gaining 338 yards on 26 catches. 2015 and 2016 saw the wide receiver blow up to the top of the Big Ten receivers lists, with 1101 and 982 yards, respectively. Godwin became the go-to guy for both Christian Hackenberg and Trace McSorley, mainly due to his ability to fight for the ball and make plays happen, even when they shouldn’t.
Also like Robinson, Godwin opted to skip his senior season with the program and depart to the NFL. Feeling like he had nothing left to prove, Godwin took his talents to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who may have gotten the biggest steal in recent draft memory when they picked him in the third round.
Before he had played a single NFL game, Godwin was already drawing lofty comparisons from from his coaches. If he’s able to play the way his coaches expect him to, Godwin will have a long, beautiful NFL career.
