For the first time since 2009, Penn State will start the season in the Top 10 of the Coaches Poll, coming in at No. 6. Ahead of the Nittany Lions will be Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, USC, and Clemson.

The No. 6 spot is right in line with what the college football media world was projecting in January. Penn State returns a number of starters on both sides of the ball, and has its entire coaching staff back, including coveted offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead.
Beyond Ohio State and Penn State, the rest of the Big Ten is well represented in the Top 10, with Michigan and Wisconsin coming in at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.
