Only John Reid Until Penn State Football

A stud in the 2015 recruiting class, John Reid joined Penn State as a four-star recruit out of Philadelphia. John was too talented to keep off the field, and recorded his first start in the opening week of 2015 against Temple. In his freshman campaign, Reid tallied 29 tackles, one tackle for loss, two interceptions, one pass defended, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble. For his efforts, John was named to the ESPN.com Big Ten All-Freshman team.

2016 was more of the same, as he notched 35 tackles, 5 TFL, 0.5 sacks, one interception, seven passes defended, and one fumble recovery. Interestingly, Reid did this over two additional games - it seems that teams began to shy away from his side of the field, once they realized how potent he was as a cover man. He also put in some work on punt returns, returning 22 throughout the season. John was named All-Big Ten honorable mention, as well as Campus Insiders Sophomore All-America honorable mention.

Reid was set to have another stellar campaign in 2017, with some people hinting that he may even depart for the NFL a year early. Unfortunately, an as yet unspecified knee injury will likely keep him on the sidelines for the duration of the season. Here’s hoping John fully recovers from his injury, and we get to watch him put receivers on an island again in 2018.
