Taking a prospect-by-prospect look at Penn State’s elite 2018 recruiting class.

The Northeast had a down year as far as secondary options went, which meant Penn State went national for cornerbacks and safeties. The Nittany Lions found Jordan Miner, who made his first visit to Happy Valley on June 2nd. That was all Miner needed to see, as he named Penn State his leader and made the call for the Nittany Lions just a month later.

Scouting Report

Miner is a long cornerback prospect with a knack for picking off passes. Although a few of his interceptions were partly due to god awful mediocre throws by the opposing quarterback, Miner does a great job of staying with his man while having the awareness to play the ball once it’s in the air. If throws do come his away, Miner flashes the ability to highpoint the ball, taking advantage of his height, length, and athleticism.

Miner has a wiry frame, and will need some time to fill out. Once he does add some mass, Miner offers the versatility to move to safety. He shows the physicality as a tackler, and has good speed for a safety, running a 4.59 40-yard dash in February 2017, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Florida prospect find a home as a strong safety.

Miner is expected to start out at cornerback so expect a redshirt season for the incoming freshman. The Nittany Lions are deep at the position, and Miner could use the year to get his body ready for the rigors of Big Ten football. Also pretty important to note: Miner just turned 17 this past fall, making him the youngest member of the class. In reality, he really should be a 2019 prospect, so the growth potential for Miner is higher than most.
