The Tale
For a lot of the 2019 recruiting cycle, it was not clear if the Nittany Lions would take a tight end. After Brenton Strange worked out for James Franklin and the staff at camp in June, he was offered by the Nittany Lions and the fullcourt press was on.
Strange has the size and athleticism needed to be a good two-way tight end for the Nittany Lions. He’s a good pass catcher with soft hands that possesses the athletic ability to be a playmaker at tight end, but also has the frame needed to add the size necessary to be an effective run blocker.
Outlook
Suddenly, the tight end room is pretty deep for the Nittany Lions. Pat Freiermuth has flashed this season, while Jon Holland and Nick Bowers have provided good depth. Don’t forget about Zack Kuntz though, who looks like a future superstar at tight end once he adds more mass.
As Strange joins this group, look for him to redshirt in 2019. Due to depth at the position it may take an additional year or two, but when Strange’s time comes he can be an impact player for the Nittany Lions.
