McSorley & Sanders Earn Second-Team Big Ten Recognition

Several members of the Penn State offense were honored for their outstanding play in 2018.

A day after Yetur Gross-Matos and Amani Oruwariye and others received recognition on the All-Big Ten defensive teams, four Nittany Lions were recognized for their standout work on the other side of the ball with Trace McSorley and Miles Sanders making Second-Team All-Big Ten, while Ryan Bates and Connor McGovern made Third-Team All-Big Ten.

McSorley, who set a barrage of school records and became the all-time winningest quarterback in Penn State history, threw for 2,284 yards with 16 touchdowns to six interceptions his senior year, despite playing through injuries and breaking in a mostly-new set of receivers. He also finished second on the team with 723 rushing yards and another 11 scores on the ground, which lead the team.

In his first year as a starter, Sanders rushed for 1,223 yards and nine touchdowns. He had five games of 100-plus yards rushing, including a 200-yard effort against Illinois. He also caught 22 passes for 132 yards on the season.

Rounding out the honors, Steven Gonzalez, Pat Freiermuth, and KJ Hamler all made the honorable mention list.
