Penn State Opens as a Surprisingly Heavy Favorite Against Wisconsin

Vegas seems to like the Nittany Lions more than we do!

NCAA Football: Penn State at Michigan Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

When the No. 21 Penn State Nittany Lions welcome the Wisconsin Badgers to Beaver Stadium on Saturday they will do so as favorites. The early line is out, and the Nittany Lions start the week at -9.

The line being this high is a bit of a surprised. While the Nittany Lions are ranked and the Badgers are not, Wisconsin is a power run team which is a bad matchup for Penn State.

Both teams enter Saturday’s game with questions surrounding their quarterbacks. Wisconsin’s Alex Hornibrook did not play two weeks ago against Northwestern and left their victory over Rutgers this past Saturday due to concussion concerns. As for the Nittany Lions, it remains to be seen if the beat up Trace McSorley will be able to play on Saturday or if James Franklin and company will have to go with Tommy Stevens.

This is the first meeting between the two since the unforgettable 2016 Big Ten Championship Game. As I’m sure all readers fondly remember, despite being underdogs and trailing 28-7, the Nittany Lions walked away with a 38-31 victory and their first Big Ten Championship since 2008.

Saturday’s kickoff is scheduled for noon and the game will be televised on ABC. Penn State will be looking to bounce back from yesterday’s 42-7 drubbing against Michigan.
