Let’s start off with the obvious in the aftermath of Penn State’s 42-7 loss on Saturday- it was a good-ol’ fashioned butt-whooping by the Wolverines, as they dominated an overwhelmed Nittany Lions squad from start to finish. There wasn’t much to write home about as Penn State was decimated in all three phases, but one player did all he could to help the cause- middle linebacker Jan Johnson.

Johnson, a former walk-on who was recently placed on scholarship, was about the only Nittany Lion to play consistently well throughout the afternoon. He led the team on tackles with 10, and also had a TFL. Penn State’s defense managed just two TFLs on the day, with Yetur Gross-Matos securing the other.

Johnson has been Penn State’s most consistent linebacker throughout the 2018 season, and is tied with Micah Parsons for the team lead in tackles with 51.

Others Considered

P Blake Gillikin- Outside of Johnson, Gillikin was the only other Nittany Lions with a notable performance on the stat sheet. He punted eight times on the afternoon for an average of 46.3 yards, and blasted one attempt for a career-long of 74 yards.
