The red, white and blue have won four gold medals since 2004 — most recently in the 2017 tournament — and won the bronze medal in last year’s tournament.
Barratt is the first Nittany Lion to appear in the World Junior Championship, but may not be the only one to participate this year.
Freshman Aarne Talvitie is among the favorites to make the cut for Team Finland and could be a front runner for team captain. Talvitie captained the team at this year’s Summer Showcase and has previously captained the U-18 squad in the 2017 U-18 World Junior Championship.
Team Finland has also won gold four times, most recently in 2016. They were eliminated by the Czech Republic in a shootout in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tournament.
