HIGHLIGHTS
THE TALE
At one point, Wingo’s recruitment looked pretty straightforward, with the Buckeyes being his “dream school.” His 247Sports Crystal Ball was all Ohio State, and it seemed like only a matter of time before Wingo made the call for the Buckeyes.
But that was until Wingo made his way to Happy Valley. Coming in on the Friday before the Whiteout game, Wingo spent the entire weekend in State College, and once he left, it seemed like the tide began to change. As it turned out, the tide did change. The Nittany Lions took over the top spot, and a few months later, Wingo made the call for James Franklin and Penn State.
OUTLOOK
So this is a good way to start the 2020 class, yes? Breaking into St. Thomas Aquinas and taking someone who was a Buckeye lean over the summer — I mean, credit to James Franklin and Co. here. And honestly, credit to the unbelievable atmosphere in Beaver Stadium on September 29. The loss stung, but for recruiting purposes you couldn’t have asked for much more. Prospects left Happy Valley knowing what a special place this is.
Wingo’s an intriguing player for Aquinas. He played mostly safety as a sophomore, but moved down to defense end for his junior season. At the next level though, he’ll for sure be a linebacker. He has good size at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, and clearly is a top-tier athlete, boasting a 4.34 shuttle time. There will certainly be an adjustment period when he makes the move from defensive end to linebacker, but with the linebacker (!) depth (!!) the Nittany Lions have built up, Wingo will have time to learn the position before being thrown into the fire.
