Somehow, some way, 2018 is all but in the rear view mirror. Seems like just yesterday we were talking about the Fiesta Bowl against the Washington Huskies, doesn’t it?
Yet here we sit, another year gone by, and a new one set to begin. As always, people will be making New Year’s resolutions. So MMQB wants to know - what’s your new year’s resolution?
Mine is a pretty easy one, at least in theory - try to stay the course a bit more over the course of the season.
If you’ll remember back to the start of the season, I called for Penn State to go 12-1, and to make the college football playoff. A strong assertion, given how many starters the defense lost, and the turnover on offense. Yet there we were, midway through the fourth quarter with a double digit lead over Ohio State, and I just knew it was destiny.
Of course, the wheels fell off, and truthfully, I was still fairly upbeat. Then the Michigan State loss, and I lost my cool. I lost all faith in the offense to put up points, and for the defense to stop anybody. My 11-1 regular season prediction shifted to 7-5 over the course of just two games.
Then, of course, the Lions righted the ship, finishing off games against Iowa and Wisconsin convincingly, and slamming the door on Rutgers and Maryland. All things considered, going 9-3 wasn’t too bad, and was perfectly between my two predictions.
For all that trouble, I’m now excessively confident in how the team will do in the bowl game tomorrow afternoon. Have I learned my lesson? Apparently not!
So for 2019, I will do my very best to maintain a more level head. The team will win some games, and will probably lose some games, as all teams do. I will try my darnedest to weather the storms, and not get too far ahead of myself during clear skies.
What about you dear, reader? What’s your resolution?
