In August of 2014 Penn State University President Eric Barron named Sandy Barbour the ninth athletic director in the university’s history. This came after Barbour had spent the previous 10 years as AD at Cal.
When she signed on at Penn State, Barbour agreed to a five-year contract that is set to expire this upcoming August. However, it appears that Barbour’s reign as AD in Happy Valley will not be ending any time soon. Meeting with the media on Monday, Barbour announced that she and President Barron have reached an agreement on a new contract.

Meeting with the media in advance of tomorrow’s Citrus Bowl, Barbour expressed her desire to remain in Happy Valley long term. The 59-year-old Barbour added that the plan is for Penn State to be her final stop before retirement.
According to Barbour, the only remaining hold up on the extension becoming official is approval from the BOT. Once the BOT signs off on the deal, Barbour’s new long term contract with the university will be in place. Until then, Penn State fans will have to play the waiting game before finding out how many year Barbour’s new contract with the university will cover.
