FOLKS,,,,,,,,,,,
THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN!
Penn State came into Saturday night’s NCAA Wrestling Tournament trailing Ohio State by six points, they came out, as per usual, as victors.
The Nittany Lions got off to a fast start as Zain Retherford claimed a 6-2 decision over Ronnie Perry of Lock Haven to close the gap to two.
Jason Nolf then followed suit at 157 pounds, topping PA native and North Carolina State product Hayden Hidlay 6-2 to become a two-time champ.
Up at 165 pounds, Vincenzo Joseph put in maybe the most impressive performance of the night by a Penn State wrestler, topping Isaiah Martinez 6-1 to become a two-time champion himself.
The fun stopped briefly at 174 pounds as Zahid Valencia of Arizona State topped Mark Hall 8-2.
In the night’s most-pivotal match, Bo Nickal took on Ohio State’s Myles Martin. After falling to Martin in the finals in 2016, Nickal took his revenge in the sweetest way this time around.
Martin got in on a shot late in the first period, took Nickal to his back but Nickal was able to kick over and went full gator bacon, sending Martin to his back and picking up the stunning fall at the 2:30 mark, making himself a two-time champion and giving the Nittany Lions the team title once again.
Stay tuned to BSD tomorrow for more extensive coverage for the tournament and quotes from a number of wrestlers and coaches from the Penn State squad.
The Nittany Lions went from down six to up eight, topping the Buckeyes 141.5 to 133.5.
