The Big Ten Powers from on high hath released unto us the finalized conference tournament brackets (click here to download a PDF). The fighting starts tomorrow morning at 10am Eastern. Here are our Nittany Lion first round opponents.

  • 125: #14 Carson Kuhn vs #3 Nate Tomasello (OSU, 7-1)
  • 133: #6 Corey Keener vs BYE
  • 141: #2 Nick Lee vs UN Mikey Van Brill (RUT, 13-11)
  • 149: #1 Zain Retherford vs BYE
  • 157: #2 Jason Nolf vs UN Jake Tucker (MSU, 18-15)
  • 165: #3 Vincenzo Joseph vs #14 Michael Sepke (JNW, 9-19)
  • 174: #1 Mark Hall vs UN Logan Ritchie (MSU, 10-20)
  • 184: #1 Bo Nickal vs BYE
  • 197: #2 Shakur Rasheed vs UN Jake Kleimola (IND, 0-12)
  • 285: #3 Nick Nevills vs UN Deuce Rachal (ILL, 10-10)

Overall, not horrible. Certainly better than last year, when Penn State received 6 BYEs in the first round. On the other hand, you always wish Zain and Bo had openers.

Ohio State? The Buckeyes received just two BYEs - Mickey Jordan at 157, and Kollin Moore at 197. No word on whether Tom Ryan plans to medically default one of his wrestlers in the opener so that he gets a layup in the first round of consolations. Stay tuned, though. Anything is possible.
