After an earlier move that would’ve seen him head to Baylor and rejoin Matt Rhule fell apart, Penn State Recruiting Coordinator EJ Barthel is heading elsewhere.

Barthel, who has long been rumored to be interested in getting back into the coaching side of the game, announced via his Twitter account on Friday that he is headed to the University of Albany to become the running backs coach for the Great Danes.

This is undoubtedly a tough blow for James Franklin and the Nittany Lions as Barthel is highly regarded in the recruiting world and has strong ties to the Philadelphia and New Jersey areas.

It will be interesting to see where Franklin goes from here with regards to finding a replacement as the Nittany Lions have had a number of administrative shakeups in the offseason.

Regardless, we wish the best to Coach Barthel in his new position with the Great Danes.
