The NFL Draft kicked off last night, and as expected, Saquon Barkley was a top 5 pick. The New York Giants selected the electric runner with the second pick of the draft (the best thing that could have happened last night, in this humble blogger’s opinion). While some were high on the pick, other’s didn’t like it as much (hint - those people are wrong). In any case, the city of New York (or was that the state of New Jersey) just got a couple entertaining players.
Barkley was the first running back taken in a somewhat tumultuous first round, and will look to sign his rookie contract in the coming months. It’s a good thing he’s going to get paid, because Barkley and his long-time girlfriend welcomed their baby girl this past week. Congratulations Saquon!
Elsewhere in the draft, Mike Gesicki, DaeSean Hamilton, Marcus Allen, and others still wait for their names to be called. This should be a good draft class for Penn State, which hasn’t had many names called in recent years. NFL 360 took a look into DaeSean Hamilton’s relationship with his brother, which has helped to shape him on and off the field.
Off the gridiron, former Penn State linebacker Nyeem Wartman-White, whose career was cut short by injuries, will finally earn his insurance settlement after years of litigation.
Lastly, Pitt AD Heather Lyke is once again pushing for the Pitt-Penn State series to be renewed, saying that the time to agree to future games is nearing. The teams couldn’t play again until 2026, but there seems to be little interest from Penn State AD Sandy Barbour in renewing the series.
