Only Cameron “Derek” Wake Until Penn State Football

Only 94 more days until the start of a new Penn State Football season!

Cameron (or as he may be remembered by Nittany Lions fans, Derek) Wake was one of the standouts of the Penn State defense in the early-2000s. Despite a productive career where he displayed his versatility as a linebacker and defensive end, Wake did not hear his name called in the 2005 NFL Draft. After being released by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent, Wake would go one to play in the CFL. This is where his story took an unexpected turn.

Wake instantly made a splash with the BC Lions, winning the CFL Rookie of the Year Award in 2007, as well as the CFL Defensive Player of the Year Award in both 2007 and 2008. Suddenly, most of the NFL was looking to remedy their mistake of passing on Wake when they had the chance. Wake signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2009, and has been one of the best pass rushers in the NFL ever since. During his NFL career, Wake has accumulated 92 career sacks, and is still going strong, posting 10.5 sacks during the 2017 season at the age of 36.

Just like Cameron Wake, may the 2018 Penn State never quit. Only 94 more days to go!
