Only Jesse Luketa Until Penn State Football

Just forty more days, hang in there.

NCAA Football: Penn State Blue White Game Matthew O’Haren-USA TODAY Sports

Jesse Luketa comes to Penn State via Mercyhurst Preparatory School in Erie, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Ottawa, Ontario with two brothers and four sisters, so he is used to having a lot of bodies in tight quarters. That is a perfect upbringing for a linebacker.

Luketa arrives on campus for his freshman season with a great deal of anticipation of what he will be able to bring to the table, and how soon. He was rated as a four-star prospect by the recruiting outlets, and garnered many awards during his high school tenure. He is listed at 6’3 and 236 pounds, which means his body is ready for the field just as soon as he is able to work his way into the fray.

He was recruited by Brent Pry and had offers from many major schools. He was listed as an outside linebacker prospect by 247Sports and ESPN but as an inside linebacker by Rivals.com.

Wherever Luketa ends up playing for the Lions, he should make an early impact. There is a great opportunity for the young linebackers in the program to get early playing time. There will always be a special place in Penn State fans’ hearts for Jason Cabinda, who took the No. 40 jersey off for the last time following the Fiesta Bowl. Let’s hope that Jesse Luketa can make a name for himself while donning the same number.
