Created in 2005, the Danny Wuerffel Award is given annually to the FBS player “who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.” For a second consecutive season, Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley is on the Wuerffel Award watch list.
No Nittany Lion has won the Wuerffel Award since its creation 13 years ago. The Award is the brain child of W. Stanley Proctor and is presented by the All Sports Association each year. And, yes, it is named after that Danny Wuerffel. The one who won a Heisman Trophy at Florida before flaming out in the NFL.
A key competent to the Wuerfel Award is being activity in your community and helping out others. Being on the watch list for this award reflects positively on the great human being that Trace is.
