Running back Johnathan Thomas has had an interesting journey during his time at Penn State. The top ranked player in Massachusetts coming out of high school made his on-field debut as a redshirt freshman in 2015, carrying 11 times for 42 yards. He then switched to linebacker in 2016, but did not record any statistics. He has made most of his impact on special teams, making tackles against Georgia State, Iowa, Rutgers, and Maryland. Thomas has already earned a degree in sociology, and was named Academic All-Big Ten in 2017. He was switched back to running back following the 2017 season, and will be one of the backups for Miles Sanders in 2018.
