Camp is kicking off this week, and with it the official end of the off season for the players and coaches. Here are five things to watch as camp unfolds, including redshirting and kicking. In recruiting, official scholarship offers went out this week, which means a host of tweets on the ol’ Tweeters.
At Big Ten Media Days, coaches partook (TIL partook is a word) in their annual custom of anonymously discussing their conference rivals. Unsurprisingly, most of the anonymous comments were positive, including rave reviews of incoming freshman Micah Parsons.
I always thought the American dream was to own land, and have a family. I apparently was wrong. The actual American dream is to one day run a city, and then use that city’s funds to purchase naming rights for a college football bowl game. America in 2018 y’all! Speaking of, have you ever wanted a Saquon Barkley bobblehead? Stupid question, of course you have. Well now you can have one of your very own, for the low, low price of just $39.99!
At the next level, former Penn Staters are making some noise. A total of 40 former football players are in attendance at NFL training camps, the highest such number since 41 players in 2012. We’re on the upswing! Among the attendees are Brandon Mahon, who has been tearing it up for the Carolina Panthers.
Off the gridiron, Ally McHugh swam to gold in the 400m individual medley. Congrats Ally!
The Lady Lions basketball team is preparing for a tour of Spain. Over 9 days, the team will play 3 games against Spanish all-star teams and a Slovanian/Adriadic League Champion, while also getting in some sight-seeing.
Lastly, Yahoo! Sports has conducted a 5-year review of athletics departments across the country, and determined that Penn State has the #9 athletics in the nation. Recent surges in Big Ten championships and individual accolades have helped boost the program in the Learfield Director’s Cup. Congrats Penn State athletes!
