Utilizing the NCAA rule which allows schools to schedule an exhibition game against a Division I institution for the purposes of disaster relief, Penn State and West Virginia will meet for a preseason exhibition game at the WVU Coliseum on November 3. The game-time has not yet been determined, and will depend on the scheduling of the WVU-Texas football game taking place on the same day. Proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross hurricane relief efforts.
This presents an excellent opportunity for Penn State to face stiff competition in the lead up to the regular season. They were originally scheduled to face Nyack College at home, but will now face a Top-25 caliber opponent on the road. With a bevy of freshmen guards to break-in this year, playing WVU will help give Chambers a sense of how well they can handle the pace of D-1 basketball and a defense that applies constant pressure. Penn State will be facing West Virginia for the first time since January 1991.
Penn State’s regular season will begin at the Bryce Jordan Center on Friday, November 9 when the Nittany Lions take on North Florida at 7:30pm. For information on purchasing tickets, visit GoPSUsports.com/climbwithus.
