Early on in his recruitment, it appeared Devyn Ford was not overly interested in Penn State. This changed rather quickly though, as following Ford’s official visit to Penn State for Blue-White weekend, the Nittany Lions seized the momentum in Ford’s recruitment and never looked back.

Highlights

Scouting Report

Ford is an all-around great football player. On top of his prolific stats as a running back, he also scored multiple defensive touchdowns during his senior year of high school. In fact, some schools liked Ford as a safety more than they did as a running back.

When Ford has the ball in his hand, he hits the hole hard and accelerates quickly. He’s a physical runner, and runs with a good pad level making it difficult for first contact to bring him down. Ford is also a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield and even played some slot in high school.

Ford is the latest in what is becoming a long line of great running backs recruited by James Franklin and his staff.

Outlook

Ford will have a great opportunity to play as a true freshman in the fall. Penn State’s running back room is insanely talented, but with Miles Sanders off to the NFL there are touches to go around. Taking into account the open depth chart and Ford’s skill set, he is capable of making an impact from day one.
