I wanted to take a quick break from our regularly-scheduled sports discussions to remind everyone to please be safe out there!
Right now, myriad states are facing record colds as a polar vortex pushes the jet stream south, bringing with it frigid air.
This morning on my way to work, the air temperature was -5° F. With the wind chill, it was -17° F! These temperatures are dangerous, and we ask everyone to please be safe.
If you don’t have to go to work, take a day off! Enjoy some quality BSD time throughout the day, snuggled up under a Penn State blanket, drinking (spiked) hot cocoa, and watching old Nittany Lion football games.
If you do have to go to work, bundle up! It’s all about layers - the more layers of clothing you have on, the more layers of air you have between you and the outside world. Warmed up air = insulation, so dress appropriately!
As always, don’t forget your furry friends - these temperatures can be fatal, so make sure any outdoor pets are appropriately taken care of as well.
Lastly, make sure your vehicle is well-equipped for the cold. In the event of a breakdown, make sure you have blankets and water in your car, as well as a first aid kit. Jumper cables are a great idea too!
Whatever you’re up to today, be safe first and foremost! You, the reader, make this community great, and we want all of you to stay safe and warm!
