Aarne Talvitie’s impressive freshman campaign will come to an early and abrupt end. According to a report by Finnish media outlet YLE, Talvitie will require surgery on his knee after suffering an injury in the gold medal game of the World Junior Championship.
His leg kind of got trapped awkwardly between the American player and the boards. He stayed on the bench though, which is good news. pic.twitter.com/oLDW8B2iqh— David Eckert (@davideckert98) January 6, 2019
Talvitie attempted to return to the contest, which Team Finland won 3-2, but was held out during the third period.
The reported timetable for recovery is six to nine months, which effectively ends his first season with the Nittany Lions. Talvitie recorded 16 points in 17 games while playing primarily on the fourth line with Nikita Pavlychev and Sam Sternschein.
