Big Ten Preview - Week 7

New, 13 comments

It’s finally cool outside, perfect Big Ten football weather!

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

After a hiatus from this post last week, I’m back at it again. Let’s see what we’ve got for week seven! I’ll be making weekly picks straight up, so read on, make your own picks, and see if you know better than me!

#16 Michigan (4-1, 2-1 Big Ten) at Illinois (2-3, 0-2)

Champaign, IL

Saturday, October 12th, 12:00 PM

Line: MICH -22.5

Okay so Illinois is not that good at football, and I can easily see Michigan winning big. But did you see their offense last week? Yeesh. Iowa has a good defense, but the Wolverines need to sort some things out before taking on Penn State next week.

Michigan 31, Illinois 10

Rutgers (1-4, 0-3) at Indiana (3-2, 0-2)

Bloomington, IN

Saturday, October 12th, 12:00 PM

Line: IND -28

Ermehgerd this is going to be tough to watch. I’ll go Indiana, but this game will not be for the faint of heart.

Indiana 35, Rutgers 14

Maryland (3-2, 1-1) at Purdue (1-4, 0-2)

West Lafayette, IN

Saturday, October 12th, 12:00 PM

Line: UMD -3

I am more than a little surprised by this line. Purdue is down to the waterboy at this point after injuries have plagued them, and Maryland is at least somewhat competent at football. I’ll take the Terps.

Maryland 28, Purdue 14

Michigan State (4-2, 2-1) at #8 Wisconsin (5-0, 2-0)

Madison, WI

Saturday, October 12th, 3:30 PM

Line: WIS -10.5

Truthfully, I’d like Michigan State to win this game. Sparty wins, they get back into the top 25, and Penn State could add another ranked pelt to its wall. But I just don’t see a way for it to happen. Wisconsin can out-manball anyone it seems, and the line seems about right.

Wisconsin 28, Michigan State 17

Nebraska (4-2, 2-1) at Minnesota (5-0, 2-0)

Minneapolis, MN

Saturday, October 12th, 7:30 PM

Line: MIN -7.5

Similar to the Purdue-Maryland line, I’m surprised by this point spread. Nebraska has looked awfully suspect this season, but Minnesota has also not looked stellar. I would have thought this would be closer to a pick em than a touchdown spread. But, similar to Michigan State, I’m pulling for the Gophers so we can have more top 25 wins at the end of the season.

Minnesota 28, Nebraska 20

Bye Week

#3 Ohio State (6-0, 3-0), Northwestern (1-4, 0-3)

Talk about two teams on different paths. OSU looks like the team from the B1G to make the playoffs right now, while Northwestern may not reach the postseason at all.

I didn’t get a chance to update my picks last week since I was out of town, but I was undefeated again in Week 5. Season is lookin gooooooood:

Week 5: 6-0

Season: 41-4

So, who ya got in week seven?
