Former Foes Week 8: Uhh, Boiler Up?

Purdue managed to get a win despite the depleted roster

NCAA Football: Maryland at Purdue Thomas J. Russo-USA TODAY Sports

We’re halfway through the college football season, which means we’re finally starting to get a clearer picture on where Penn State’s former foes (and former bro down in Starkville) stand. Save for Pitt and Iowa, the returns so far are not good, Bob! However, shout-out goes out to Purdue, who managed to put up 40 points with their injury-riddled roster, even if it’s the Maryland defense they were up against.

Former Foes

Idaho Vandals

Last Seen: The Vandals were shut out on the road against Portland State, 24-0. Oh well, at least they managed to score points on at least one of the PSU teams they faced.

Up Next: Idaho heads back to the friendly confines of the Kibbie Dome to host their in-state rival, Idaho State.

2019 Record: 2-5

Buffalo Bulls

Last Seen: Enjoying the bye week.

Up Next: Lance Leipold’s crew will hit the road this Saturday to take on Akron.

2019 Record: 2-4

Pittsburgh Panthers

Last Seen: Pitt was on a bye last week.

Up Next: A Friday night under the Carrier Dome lights awaits Pitt, as they take on Syracuse tomorrow.

2019 Record: 4-2

Maryland Terrapins

Last Seen: Getting smacked around by a crippled Purdue team, 40-14 in West Lafayette. Needless to say, a loss like this does not bode well for the Terps’ hopes of reaching bowl eligibility in Mike Locksley’s debut season as head coach. Oh well, at least Locks has utilized his staunch DC-area ties to bring in a superb recruiting cla- errr, nevermind.

Up Next: The Terps play host to Indiana this Saturday.

2019 Record: 3-3

Purdue Boilermakers

Last Seen: Bouncing back in epic fashion at home, by destroying a Maryland team that was favored by 3.5 points.

Up Next: The Boilermakers hit the road to Iowa City, where they face a desperate Iowa team coming off back-to-back losses over ranked teams and looking to take out their frustrations on someone. While beating up on Maryland sure was a nice confidence booster for a team that has dealt with a ginormous amount of adversity, they have an extremely tall task at hand this Saturday.

2019 Record: 2-4

Iowa Hawkeyes

Last Seen: Getting beat at their own game by Penn State in a low-scoring, defensive slugfest.

Up Next: Iowa gets a golden chance to end the losing skid with a visit from a still-crippled Purdue team this Saturday.

2019 Record: 4-2

Former Bros

Mississippi State Bulldogs

Last Seen: Laying a huge egg on the road at Tennessee, 20-10. It was a game which Tommy Stevens benched once again in favor of true freshman Garrett Shrader, and where the fan base has started to get restless to the point where rumors are swirling on the Internets and sports talk radio that Joe Moorhead may be seeking to jump ship to Rutgers or any other job in the Northeastern part of the U.S. that opens up.

Up Next: Things don’t get any easier for JoeMo’s crew, as the Bulldogs host second-ranked LSU this Saturday.

2019 Record: 3-3
