Penn State Football Commits In Action: Week 9

Current Nittany Lions weren’t the only ones finding success on the field this past weekend

On Friday night in the state of Florida, the Cocoa Tigers were defeated by the Venice Indians 48-31. However, future Penn State running back Caziah Holmes was far from the reason the Tigers were defeated. Holmes continued his outstanding senior campaign by rushing for 251 yards and 3 touchdown on 24 carries, which included a 99-yard touchdown run. He also had 3 receptions for 16 yards.

Saturday afternoon, Penn State commits Golden Israel-Achumba and Coziah Izzard and the DeMatha Catholic Stags (MD) squared off against Washington D.C. powerhouse Gonzaga and offensive line commit Olu Fashanu. Fashanu and the Eagles walked away as 28-26 winners, GIA and Izzard’s highlights from the game between the two powerhouse schools can be seen below.

Sticking with the DMV, linebacker Curtis Jacobs and the McDonogh Eagles remained undefeated with a 14-7 victory over Saint Joseph. Jacobs recorded a pair of sacks in the victory. Jacobs also rushed for a touchdown.

Quarterback Micah Bowens led national powerhouse Bishop Gorman to a 71-0 victory. Bowens 3/7 for 77 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball twice for 85 yards. Playing quarterback, future Penn State tight end Tyler Warren had 191 total yards and 3 touchdowns in a 35-0 victory for Atlee High School in Virginia.

In the New Jersey Catholic League, Amin Vanover and the St. Joseph Regional Green Knights were defeat by Don Bosco Prep 35-14 on Saturday. In the loss, Vanover had 6 tackles including a TFL.

Sticking with the New Jersey Catholic League, offensive lineman Devin Willock and the Paramus Catholic Paladins were defeated by St. Peter’s Prep 35-10. Despite the loss, Willock and the Paladin offensive line still paved the way to 184 rushing yards. You can check out Willock’s highlights from the game below.

At the JUCO level, it was a slow weekend for safety Ji’Ayir Brown and wide receiver Norval Black. While the Lackawanna Falcons remained undefeated, Brown had just two tackles and Black was kept off the score sheet.

As for the 2021 cycle, offensive lineman Nate Bruce helped lead the Harrisburg Cougars to a 62-0 victory over Carlisle. Tight end Nick Elksnis had 1 reception which was a 57-yard touchdown in a 42-0 victory for the Episcopal School of Jacksonville. Elksnis also had 6 tackles including a pair of TFLs for the Eagle defense. Wide receiver Liam Clifford had a 40-yard touchdown reception in a loss for St. Xavier (OH).
