Oh, Hello: 2020 JuCo C Valdir Manuel Commits To Penn State Basketball

Penn State adds a coveted center to close out the 2020 class.

Valdir Manuel, ladies and gentlemen!

The Skinny

Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA
JuCo: Harcum College
Class: 2020
Position: C
Height: 6-foot-10
Weight: 225 pounds.
Ranking: ⭐⭐⭐(247 Composite)
Notable Offers: West Virginia, Rhode Island, St. John’s, DePaul, Illinois, Memphis, Minnesota, St. Joseph’s, Temple

The Tale

Valdir Manuel originally committed to Seton Hall back in early 2018. By the end of 2018, he had committed to St. John’s instead. Soon after in April of 2019, he decommitted from St. John’s as well, and instead stayed at Harcum College. None of his previous teams made the cut this time around, as West Virginia, Rhode Island, and Penn State were his final three. Of those, only Rhode Island offered out of high school, when Bob Hurley was still with the Rams.

Manuel brings much needed depth at the position, with the departure of Mike Watkins after this season. If Abdou Tsimbila enrolls in the spring, as expected, that would leave two big men for the 2020 season, with Manuel being the third. His time in a JuCo program also helps the Lions bring in someone with a little more experience than a player out of high school would, and given what we lose next season, it will be a welcome addition.

Welcome to Penn State, Valdir!
