Penn State’s Blake Gillikin and Jayson Oweh have earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors for their performances against the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday afternoon. Gillikin was named the Big Ten’s Special Teams Player of the Week while Oweh was named the Big Ten Co-Freshmen of the week.
For Gillikin, earning the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week honor is his second in three weeks after earning the honor for the Nittany Lions win over Iowa on October 12. Against the Spartans, Gillikin had one of the best punting performances you’ll see considering the intense rain and wind in Spartan Stadium. Five of the senior’s eight punts on the afternoon landed inside the Spartans 20 yard line, and his average punt was 44.3 yards, his highest average of the season.
Oweh, earned his first Big Ten weekly honor thanks to, two strip-sacks on Saturday. The New Jersey native finished the game with three total tackles.
