Big Ten Preview - Week 10

New, 10 comments

How the heck is it already week 10?!

After an eventful week 9, week 10 is a complete dud. Only one of the ranked teams in the conference is playing this weekend, and they’re playing in what should be a laugher. Ah well. Let’s see what we’ve got for week ten! I’ll be making weekly picks straight up, so read on, make your own picks, and see if you know better than me!

#14 Michigan (6-2, 3-2 Big Ten) at Maryland (3-5, 1-4)

College Park, MD

Saturday, November 2nd, 12:00 PM

Line: MICH -21

A week after routing a then-top 10 Notre Dame 45-14, Michigan heads to take on a Maryland team that is circling the drain. The Terrapins got blown out 52-10 by Minnesota, and I don’t expect this game to be any prettier.

Michigan 49, Maryland 7

Nebraska (4-4, 2-3) at Purdue (2-6, 1-4)

West Lafayette, IN

Saturday, November 2nd, 12:00 PM

Line: NEB -3

That noise you hear is my brain screaming as I try to come up with some combination of words to make this game sound enticing. My brain won, but the screaming continues.

Nebraska 21, Purdue 20

Rutgers (2-6, 0-5) at Illinois (4-4, 2-3)

Champaign, IL

Saturday, November 2nd, 3:30 PM

Line: ILL -20.5

The screaming subsided just a little bit, as Illinois is suddenly fun again. A week after beating Wisconsin, the Illini knocked off Purdue 24-6. Meanwhile Rutgers actually won a game, albeit against Liberty in a shootout. Methinks Illinois gets one step closer to a bowl game, and getting some postseason expert breakdown of Lovie Smith’s majestic beard.

Illinois 35, Rutgers 14

Northwestern (1-6, 0-5) at Indiana (6-2, 3-2)

Bloomington, IN

Saturday, November 2nd, 7:00 PM

Line: IND -11.5

Indiana is going bowling! The Hoosiers took down Nebraska 38-31, and will head to the postseason this year! Northwestern, on the other hand, needs to win every single game from here on out to match that feat. Color me dubious.

Indiana 42, Northwestern 10

Bye Week

#3 Ohio State (8-0, 5-0), #5 Penn State (8-0, 5-0), #13 Minnesota (8-0, 5-0), #18 Wisconsin (6-2, 3-2), #19 Iowa (6-2, 3-2), Michigan State (4-4, 2-3)

Holy bye week Batman! Pretty much all of the good teams, and Michigan State, are on their bye this week, making for an underwhelming slate of games. Next week it gets fun though!

I incorrectly called Illinois over Purdue and Rutgers over Liberty, but nailed my Michigan over Notre Dame prediction, putting me at 5-2 for the week. Not bad, not bad at all.

Week 9: 5-2

Season: 54-8

So, who ya got in week 10?
