The Tale

It seemed like D.J. Gordon was all set to commit to Pitt not that long ago, but Pat Chambers and the rest of the staff put the full court press on Gordon during that time, and made enough of an impression that he decided to come to Happy Valley instead. Gordon went on an official visit on September 14th for the Pitt football game, after Chambers and the rest of the staff visited Gordon in Pittsburgh earlier that week. This came not much soon after Gordon had already taken an unofficial visit to the program.

Chambers’ relentless effort to go after a player that was expected to commit to another in-state school paid off, and Gordon is now a Nittany Lion.

Gordon’s composite rating of .9311 puts him right at the cusp of a 4-star ranking, with the cutoff hovering around the .9325 range. He’s ranked 134th in the country (for reference, Mike Watkins was 122nd when he came in), which gives Penn State another top-150 guy to go along the previous top-150 players in recent classes.

Gordon won’t probably get a starting slot right off the bat given how the team depth is distributed, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him work his way to 20 minutes a game by the time the season is over.

Gordon’s commitment brings the 2020 class to three members, and with the departure of Daniil Kasatkin, this means Penn State has one more scholarship to give for the 2020 class.

Welcome to Penn State, DJ Gordon!
