The Nittany Lions football squad suffered their first loss of the year this week at undefeated Minnesota, and dropped to #9 in the playoff rankings.

The Golden Gophers catapulted up the rankings after this past week’s win to #8, only one spot ahead of PSU; they were #17 in last week’s first rankings of the year. There are still four one-loss teams ahead of Minnesota in Utah, Georgia, Oregon, and Alabama.

PSU’s opponent this week, Indiana, still did not enter the rankings; this week was their first ranking in the AP poll in 25 seasons. Next week, Penn State will travel to Columbus to take on the #2 Ohio State Buckeyes.

Other Big Ten teams ranked in the playoff rankings are former Nittany Lion 2019 opponents Iowa (#20) and Michigan (#15), and Wisconsin (#14).
