Former Foes Week 13: The Boat Has Sprung a Leak

Minnesota is no longer undefeated, and #9WINDIANA remains a possibility.

NCAA Football: Minnesota at Iowa Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Penn State got back on the winning track last weekend. Did their former foes do the same? Let’s find out!

Former Foes

Idaho Vandals

Last Seen: Getting thumped at home in the Kibbie Dome by Sacramento State, 31-7.

Up Next: Now guaranteed a second straight losing season, the Vandals will conclude their season at Northern Arizona this Saturday.

2019 Record: 4-7

Buffalo Bulls

Last Seen: Lance Leipold’s crew found itself on the wrong end of a furious comeback at Kent State, blowing a 24-6 third quarter lead to ultimately lose, 30-27. Buffalo would make up for it this week however, as they took down Toledo at home this past Wednesday night 49-30, in one of ESPN’s mid-week #MACtion showcases. This is Buffalo’s sixth win of the season, which means Da Bulls are heading to a bowl game (daaaaa bowl game!)

Up Next: Buffalo concludes its regular season at home against Bowling Green next Friday

2019 Record: 6-5

Pittsburgh Panthers

Last Seen: Pitt beat UNC 34-27 in overtime, but not before near Pitting away a game in which they led the whole way before blowing a 14-point fourth quarter lead.

Up Next: The Fightin’ Narduzzis will enter the Sandman against Virginia Tech this Saturday.

2019 Record: 7-3

Maryland Terrapins

Last Seen: Enjoying a bye week to forget about how poorly their season has gone, and to admire how the undefeated 6th-ranked basketball team continues to plug along in the early going.

Up Next: Senior Day this Saturday in College Park with a desperate 4-6 Nebraska team coming to town.

2019 Record: 3-7

Purdue Boilermakers

Last Seen: Enjoying the bye week to heal up (well, what little is still left of an injury-depleted Boilermaker squad).

Up Next: A trip to Madison this Saturday to take on a Wisconsin team needing a win to set up a showdown with Minnesota the following weekend for all the Big Ten West marbles. Good luck with that, Coach Brohm!

2019 Record: 4-6

Iowa Hawkeyes

Last Seen: Knocking Minnesota from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 23-19 victory in the friendly confines of Kinnick Stadium.

Up Next: A Senior Day clash at home against Illinois.

2019 Record: 7-3

Michigan Wolverines

Last Seen: After a slow first quarter, Michigan slaughtered their little brother (Michigan State) 44-10 in Ann Arbor.

Up Next: Michigan takes to the road to face a pesky Indiana team looking for that signature upset win.

2019 Record: 8-2

Michigan State Spartans

Last Seen: Drawing first blood with a touchdown in the Big House before getting outscored 44-3 the rest of the way in their most lopsided loss against Michigan in the Mark Dantonio era.

Up Next: A road trip to New Jersey to take on Rutgers, where Sparty is currently a 20.5-point favorite.

2019 Record: 4-6

Minnesota Golden Gophers

Last Seen: PJ Fleck’s boat hit an iceberg upon reaching Iowa City, as the Golden Gophers suffered their first defeat of the season, 23-19 at Iowa. Kinnick Stadium indeed, remains a place where Top 10 teams go to die*

Up Next: Thankfully, Minnesota gets to head to Evanston to take on lowly Northwestern this Saturday. Should they presumably win that one, an epic showdown with their rival Wisconsin looms the following week.

* Except for Penn State, of course

2019 Record: 9-1

Indiana Hoosiers

Last Seen: Giving Penn State all they could handle on the road, but ultimately coming up short in a 34-27 defeat.

Up Next: Despite losing, the #9WINDIANA dream remains alive, provided they can beat Michigan at home this Saturday before they face their hated rivals Purdue the following Saturday.

2019 Record: 7-3

Former Bros

Mississippi State Bulldogs

Last Seen: Despite ending Tua Tagovailoa’s college football career, the Dawgs still succumbed mightily, 38-7 to Alabama.

Up Next: The Fightin’ Moorheads play host to Abilene Christian this Saturday in the annual pre-Thanksgiving FCS sacrificial lamb that every SEC school is entitled to.

2019 Record: 4-6
