Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, citing a “source” is reporting via Twitter that wide receiver Justin Shorter has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

This tweet from Lions247 insider Tyler Donohue however, should also be something to note, regarding James Franklin’s reaction when asked about it during his press conference earlier today.

While Shorter hasn’t had the year that the fan base envisioned, catching only 12 balls for 137 yards, this does come as a surprise, especially considering he had a season-high three catches against Ohio State last Saturday and seemed like a man determined to turn a corner.

Obviously, this is a very fluid situation, and it’s important to remember that just because a player enters the portal, it does not mean they have left the program, and it doesn’t mean Shorter cannot suit up and play this Saturday against Rutgers. Lamont Wade and Cam Sullivan-Brown are two such examples of players who entered the portal but ultimately opted to stay. It is certainly something to keep an eye on though, especially with the receiver and tight end positions for 2020 being uncertain depending on KJ Hamler and Pat Freiermuth’s decisions on whether to turn pro.
