Penn State Football is No. 4 in First College Football Playoff Rankings

The Lions are about where most folks predicted in this week’s first release of the college football playoff rankings

The Nittany Lion football team finds themselves in a prime position in this week’s first college football playoff rankings, released Tuesday night - coming in at #4. This is the highest the Nittany Lions have been ranked in a college football playoff ranking poll.

Penn State controls its own destiny, like much of the top teams left; if they win out, they’ll get in. This week is the next big test for PSU, who travels to Minneapolis to face Minnesota (17th in the rankings). After that, they’ll face a surprising Indiana squad who found themselves on the outside of the first rankings; then the Lions will travel to Columbus to face the Ohio State Buckeyes, ranked first, in a game much of the college football world has had circled for a few weeks.

In addition to PSU’s future opponents, former foes Iowa (#18) and Michigan (#14) also appear in the rankings this first go-around. Rounding out the Big Ten’s entrants are Wisconsin, at #13.
