College Football Playoff season is here, and it’s the most wonderful time of the year.

Twitter will be flooded with hot takes stretching from one extreme to the other, but it seems for the most part the committee got it right, even even the reigning National Champions are on the outside looking in.

Those rankings will be shaken up almost immediately as we’re set for a No. 2 versus No. 3 matchup this weekend. The Tigers are poised to give the Crimson Tide all they can handle, while Nick Saban may have his full arsenal at his disposal.

On the other end of the spectrum, Florida State’s steep and rapid decline hit another low with the firing of Willie Taggart. The Seminoles have fallen on hard times since winning the National Championship not long ago, but much to the dismay of their fans, things may get worse before they can get better.

Penn State Is In

Penn State’s position in the first round of the CFP rankings took many by surprise. Perhaps it shouldn’t have, though, as the Nittany Lions have had the more difficult path to their undefeated record. Clemson is more likely to remain undefeated the rest of the way, but Penn State still has a shot at the College Football Playoff even with a loss down the road.

The Nittany Lions will certainly be tested during their November slate, but will benefit from a bye week leading into the month.

While Penn State’s College Football Playoff path is fairly straightforward, Minnesota will require a bit of help. Coming off a bye week, the Golden Gophers are gearing up for what is certainly their most important game of the season.

The Golden Gophers have experienced a resurgence under the guidance of P.J. Fleck, and the head coach has been rewarded for his efforts. While Fleck and Franklin will be foes on Saturday, the two have formed a friendship from their work on the field.

After Penn State claimed the Land Grant Trophy a couple weeks ago, another prominent rivalry trophy will be up for grabs on Saturday.
